Break out the Cigars! Steelers Clinch AFC North
The Cincinnati Bengals gave the Steelers the best Christmas present they could ask for - an AFC North championship.
The Steelers have officially clinched the AFC North with the Bengals victory over the Browns Sunday. It’s their first division title since 2004, but their fifth playoff appearance in seven years. Congratulations to Mike Tomlin and the Steelers!
Notes from the Browns-Bengals Game
It seemed Cleveland was in the Christmas spirit early on giving Cincinnati every gift possible. ”Superstar” Derek Anderson threw four interceptions (back-to-back interceptions at one point) that set up Bengal touchdowns and gave them a 19-0 lead at halftime.
The Browns battled back in the second half to a 19-14 score and had every opportunity to take over the game. But Anderson’s miscues proved to be too much for the Browns to overcome and the Bengals went on to win.
What Does this Mean to Pittsburgh?
The Steelers, as of Sunday, are the #4 seed in the AFC and would host the Jacksonville Jaguars for the second time in a month. If, however, the Chargers lose to the Broncos Monday night, the Steelers would become the #3 seed and would host the Browns again. I don’t know about you, but I’m rooting for the Broncos. Nobody - and I mean nobody - wants to play the Jags. They’re playing top-notch football right now.
Why the #3 Seed is Better than #4
Should the Steelers be the #3 seed and win the wild card game against Cleveland (or Tennessee), the Steelers would travel to Indianapolis instead of New England. I think that would be a better scenario, don’t you?

In all honesty it doesn’t matter which seed they get, in the end the Steelers are going to have to play New England in the Foxboro. So its time for the Steelers to get back into top form no matter who they face. And personally I’d rather have them play the better teams to show that they can hang and beat good teams rather than the Steelers beating up the Browns and then get demolished by the Colts or the Pats, that kind of loss can linger into next season. Its time to strap-in, hit hard and win in the post season. This is Big Ben’s year to carry his team in the playoff, all I hope for is the line to hold the defense for at least 3 seconds. They should keep Max Starks in the line and give some RB help to the right side and middle of the line. The defense I think will come into its own during the stretch, somebody needs to step up and do the barking (Farrior, Hampton, somebody). I feel much better with Carter at safety. Do we get a peek at RB Gary Russell this weekend?
